Experience: I am a math grad student at the University of MD with seven years of experience tutoring math and math SAT prep. I work hard to help my students grasp difficult math concepts, learn to think critically, and become selfconfident. I have tutored math to 100+ students ranging from elementary schoolers to graduate students. It is not my goal to impress you with my own grades, test scores, and awards being an effective tutor takes much more than that! I do my best to understand a problem from a student's perspective and explain new topics in the context of ideas that they have already mastered. I like to begin with a student's general intuition about a concept and develop this intuition into a true understanding of the material. I have found this method to be much more effective than helping students blindly memorize a sequence of steps that doesn't hold any meaning to them. This last approach is faster (and much easier on the part of the tutor) but it simply results in confusion when students are faced with an unfamiliar problem on a test. I tutor because it is rewarding to see my students have an 'aha!' moment as they figure out a tricky problem. I enjoy finding creative ways to challenge and motivate them. It is exciting to get a phone call from a student and hear how much they improved their SAT score, learn that a quiz went really well, or find out that they decided to major in math. I have excellent references. Please get in touch with me if you'd like to speak to a parent of one of my current students or if you'd like a copy of my resume.
Hobbies: Competing with my husband to see whose robot (computer program) can win a game of checkers.

I wholeheartedly recommend Neza for tutoring to help prepare for the SAT. After working with Neza for just a few sessions, my 11thgrade daughter’s SAT II math score increased by 60 points! Neza is exceptionally friendly, patient, and adept at explaining difficult concepts to young people in a way that engages them and helps them remember and apply what they learn. Thanks, Neza!

Neza tutored our middle school daughter in Algebra and Geometry. They have had a great working relationship, and our daughter’s success increased under Neza’s instruction. Neza was very effective in not only teaching our daughter skills, but her calm and reassuring style also helped build confidence. Our daughter is now in High School and tested into a significantly higher math class than most of her peers. We definitely recommend Neza as a tutor.

Neza has been tutoring my son for the past three years. She is an excellent tutor; she is adept in Mathematics at all levels including Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus and Calculus. She is able to share her knowledge in a very creative and effective manner. Neza’s aptitude for Mathematics together with her caring disposition make her an exceptional tutor, and it is with great pleasure that I recommend her to anyone who needs her services.

Neza has been tutoring my 7th grade daughter for the past seven months. My daughter wanted to join the accelerated math group at her school in the fall of 2013 and in order to do that –given that she skipped a whole year of prealgebra in 6th grade Neza’s tutoring was key. She taught prealgebra to my daughter over the summer and helped her understand the key concepts that were covered. Neza is an outstanding tutor, gentle, clear and very patient. She makes sure that my daughter understands the mechanics and logic of math and focuses on the aspects that she feels need to be strengthened. My daughter is now in the accelerated math group and has done very well.

Neza tutored our daughter over the summer and early fall in SAT math in preparation for the SAT test. She was great and my daughter really enjoyed working with her. She took a genuine interest in improving my daughter's performance in the math section of the SAT and my daughter was able to improve her math score enough to get into the selective college of her choice and in fact received a partial scholarship. I would highly recommend using her as a tutor.

Neza is an excellent tutor. My son showed improvement on his test after one hour with her. She is very professional and reliable. When she had to reschedule, she informed me right away.

Highly recommended. Has been tutoring my daughter in AP Calculus for over four months. She's been very effective, reasonably flexible in terms of schedule, and very responsive. Has made a real difference for my daughter to keep up with this truly collegelevel class, including by talking through and practicing with her concepts that are not fully grasped the first time around.
